Australian casino workers union demands protection

The Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union of Australia, which represents over 15,000 casino workers, is urging the government to introduce legislation to protect casino workers from enraged gamblers. As more and more incidents of gamblers killing casino workers and patrons occur in the United States, together with a higher incidence of armed Australian gamblers, the union has demanded action. The union wants metal detectors installed in all casinos in order to prevent similar tragedies in Australia. Said a union spokesman, “Our concerns are real that a casino worker could be killed if these metal detection devices are not introduced as a matter of urgency”
