Australian Casino Operators: Online Gambling Ban a Failure6 February 2002AUSTRALIA – Feb. 6, 2002 –As reported by the Australian Associated Press: "Casino operators say the federal government's prohibition on Internet gambling is failing, with Australian punters flocking to use unregulated offshore gaming sites. "A year-long survey of online gamblers conducted by the Australian Casino Association found 40 per cent used overseas-based gambling sites. "…ACA executive director Chris Downy said the survey proved last year's Interactive Gambling Act banning Australian online sites was a failure. "`The level of interest in online gaming remained relatively consistent throughout the year and actually increased in July 2001 at the same time as the introduction of the Interactive Gambling Act,' he said…" |
