Australian Casino Fined for Underage Gambling

TASMANIA, Australia --As reported by the Australian Examiner: "Hotel group pleads guilty over gaming area breaches. Having people under 18 in a Hobart gaming area has cost Australian National Hotels a total of $2588 (US$1448).

"The group, which operates the Wrest Point casino, yesterday pleaded guilty to four counts of being the operator of an approved venue where a minor entered a restricted gaming area.

"…The Hobart Magistrates Court was told licensing police found a 15-year-old girl seated at a gaming machine last Easter.

"Also at Easter, two 17-year-olds were found in a restricted area, but they were not using the machines.

"At Christmas another 15-year-old was found in the gaming area.

"…Magistrate Ian Matterson fined the hotel group $2000 and ordered the payment of costs totalling $588."
