Australia Union Claims Casino Staff Locked Out for Seeking Raise4 February 2001AUSTRALIA – Feb. 4, 2001 –As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "The union covering gaming staff at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast claims its members have been locked out of their workplace for wearing badges calling on their employer to give them a pay rise. "The Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union says more than 500 gaming staff are seeking a wage rise to bring them into line with pay levels at other casinos around the country. "…`This is a classic David and Goliath struggle, we have a multinational company who is locking out members who are participating in a protected action of wearing badges just to say that they want a pay rise,' [the union's state coordinator, Katrina] McGill said." |
