Aussies Gamble More Than Ever

AUSTRALIA – As reported by (Australian) Star: ``New South Wales gamblers are the worst in the nation spending more than $1,000 annually per adult.

``The figures came to light with the release of the New South Wales Year Book last week, which revealed the net taking from gambling was $1,154 per adult head of population, an increase of 66 per cent in six years.

``Six years ago the average adult spend on gambling in NSW was $695. That figure has gradually increased with NSW gamblers now spending more than ever before.

``…The rate of gambling in Australia has continued to increase despite a number of initiatives from the government designed to combat problem gambling.

``NSW Gaming and Racing Minister Grant McBride said he would be commissioning a major 12-month study investigating harm minimisation measures to combat problem gambling..."
