Aussie Rugby Management to Look into Betting Allegations12 May 2003CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Associated Press: ``Canberra Raiders management said Sunday it will investigate allegations that some players gambled on their own and other National Rugby League matches. ``NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley spoke with Raiders chief executive Simon Hawkins on Sunday after the allegation surfaced in Sydney's Sun-Herald newspaper. ``Hawkins was reported to have told Annesley there was no evidence of gambling by players, but he will remind the players this week of their responsibilities under NRL guidelines ``The Sun-Herald alleged that several Canberra players had gambled on the outcome of matches last weekend, including the Raiders' win over South Sydney. ``Under NRL rules, players are not allowed to bet on games and the club could face a fine if the allegations are proven…" |
