Aussie Bank Boss 'Stole out of Boredom'

AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the Australian Associated Press: ``A bored bank manager stole almost $4 million to fund his gambling at the pokies and at the track, a Melbourne court has been told.

``Between November 1994 and February 2000 John Main, 48, stole more than $3.95 million from the Bank of Western Australia, or BankWest, using false documents to invent a fictitious client, the Melbourne Magistrates Court heard today.

``In his first court appearance Main, of Robe Street, St Kilda, waived his right to preliminary hearings and pleaded guilty to 29 charges including theft and making false documents.

``Main told police the basic reason for the thefts was due to boredom because he was not being stimulated at work, according to a summary of evidence handed to the court.

``...Police believe he spent most of the money on gambling after he told them about his involvement with betting and pokie machines.

``...He remains on bail until a plea hearing in the County Court on November 27..."
