Atlantic City's August Win Not a Record13 September 2002ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Uh ... about that record casino revenue last month: Forget it. "The Casino Control Commission on Thursday released the official gross gaming revenues for August, which showed an industrywide win of $427.2 million, up 0.9 percent over the same month last year. "That's less than the $435.1 million and 2.8 percent gain initially tabulated by the casinos themselves last week. It means that the industry did not break its all-time monthly record of $429.3 million set in July 2000. "…Nevertheless, August was the industry's second-best month ever and marked its 10th straight month of year-over-year revenue gains. " Casinos routinely share their unofficial results on the second business day of each month, knowing they will become public about 10 days later. They're not intended for publication, but The Press of Atlantic City publishes them and Wall Street analysts distribute them…" |
