Atlantic City Slot Revenues Up Slightly15 January 2003ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Slot machines were tighter and accounted for nearly three-quarters of the citywide gambling revenue last year, according to year-end figures released Tuesday by the Casino Control Commission. "The city's dozen casinos won $4.38 billion from gamblers, up 1.8 percent over the previous year. It was the third straight year that revenue growth failed to keep pace with inflation (2.2 percent through November). "…For the 22nd straight year slots accounted for an increasingly bigger piece of the casino-revenue pie. Slot revenue was $3.3 billion, or 74.4 percent of gamblers' losses. The revenue was 3.8 percent higher than the previous year. "…Revenue from table games declined 3.6 percent. The $1.1 billion in table winnings was roughly the same as in 1986. "…Gamblers inserted $40.5 billion into slots last year, with casinos returning 91.94 percent in winnings. That's down from 91.97 percent a year earlier and only the fourth time that slots were tighter than the year before…" |
