Atlantic City Slot Payouts Up Again13 January 2001ATLANTIC CITY - Jan. 13, 2001-- As reported by the Atlantic City PressPlus: "Local casinos last year continued their trend of being more generous to slot-machine players, returning 91.83 percent of the money wagered. "That's better than their 1999 payout of 91.77 percent and the 19th time in 22 years that slot payouts have improved over the previous year. Resorts Atlantic City, the first casino to open, in 1978, paid out 85.6 percent its first year and the industrywide average payout did not exceed 90 percent until 1992. "...One industry analyst, though, calls the trend disturbing, saying it does nothing but eat profits. "...Although last year's payout increased by only a small amount, 0.06 percentage point, over the previous year, it theoretically represents $22.1 million less for the casinos. That's based on the $37.7 billion gamblers fed into the slots last year. "Industry experts, though, say that casinos are winning back most of that amount because most gamblers choose to play longer with their extra winnings. "...Indeed, citywide slot revenue increased 4.5 percent last year, to $3.1 billion. "Availability - there are now almost 36,000 slots here - is one of five reasons payouts are increasing, experts said. "...Slots on the Las Vegas Strip casinos average a 94.1 payout..." |
