Atlantic City Slot Advances Approved28 November 2002ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Casinos won approvals on Wednesday for two key advances in slot-machine technology. "By 4-0 votes, the Casino Control Commission adopted regulations for a cashless gaming system that uses vouchers and advanced regulations for `tokenization,' which allows the same tokens to be used in slots with different denominations. "Both systems have been operating on a test basis at certain casinos. "The voucher system gives gamblers the option of redeeming their slot credits on bar-coded paper that can be exchanged for cash, inserted into another compatible slot or kept for a future visit. "The system eliminates a slot machine's downtime by eliminating coin refills and the lockup that occurs when waiting for a hand-paid jackpot. "…Tokenization allows gamblers to use, say, a dollar token in any compatible slot, whether it's a penny, nickel or dollar in denomination. All payouts are made with dollar tokens. "The only hitch is that gamblers cannot redeem `residual' amounts that are less than the token's value. For example, a gambler wagering dollar tokens on a nickel machine might want to quit with 65 cents in credits remaining. The gambler must either play the amount or forfeit it…" |
