Atlantic City Sands Workers Lose Jobs

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A total of 266 Sands Casino Hotel employees will lose their jobs as the casino discards more than half of its gaming tables, a Sands executive said Thursday.

"The figure amounts to 9 percent of Sands' total work force. The job losses include 151 part-time dealers, or three-fourths of the casino's part-time work force.

"Sands will hold a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to help its displaced employees - mostly dealers and their supervisors - find jobs with other local casinos, said Signe Huff, senior vice president of hotel operations and human resources. At least four casinos and some noncasino companies plan to attend, she said.

"…Huff also confirmed that some Sands employees will be taking pay cuts as they move into different jobs as a result of the loss of gaming tables.

"Sands decided two weeks ago to eliminate 43 of its 71 traditional gaming tables and replace them with 400 slot machines…"
