Atlantic City Casinos Posted Slight Gain in 199913 April 2000ATLANTIC CITY -- New Jersey's casinos posted a sluggish 2.4 percent increase in gross operating profits last year, according to year-end statistics released by the state Casino Control Commission. The 12 casinos won nearly $4.5 billion from gamblers at the slot machines, craps tables and roulette wheels, but they registered a net loss of $126 million after deducting nonoperating charges. Occupancy rates for the year, meanwhile, averaged 91.3 percent, up 2.3 percentage points from 1998, the commission said last week. |
