Atlantic City Casinos Give Nearly Two-Thirds of Rooms Free

ATLANTIC CITY – Dec. 18, 2000 – As reported by Atlantic City online: ``Atlantic City casinos have increased the percentage of hotel rooms given free to gamblers seemingly every year, and are now approaching the two-thirds mark.

``The figures were compiled by Martin Perry, a Rutgers University professor who testified for the Division of Gaming Enforcement in the Park Place-Claridge economic-concentration hearing last week.

``In 1988, the casinos gave away 33.2 percent of their rooms. Last year it was 60.6 percent and through the first six months of this year it was 63.2 percent.

``There is, however a wild variance among the casinos. The two Harrah's Entertainment casinos, Showboat and Harrah's Atlantic City, lead the pack this year at 85 and 82 percent, respectively…"
