Atlantic City Casino Win Up in February5 March 2002ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Casinos continued to reap the rewards of good weather and travel concerns in February, when their gross gambling revenue increased 3.6 percent. "The dozen casinos won $345.5 million from gamblers last month, an increase of $11.9 million over the year-earlier period, according to unofficial results obtained Monday by The Press of Atlantic City. "…Barring a major shift in the official results, casinos will have realized four straight months of revenue growth, something the industry hasn't achieved since summer 2000. "…Slot-machine revenue, which accounts for almost three-quarters of the industry's business, increased 6.2 percent, to $258.1 million. "Table-games revenue, hurt by slightly worse luck, declined 3.6 percent to $86.5 million. Casinos kept 15.6 percent of the money exchanged into gaming chips, compared to 16.1 percent for the same month last year. "…Bally's supplanted Trump Taj Mahal as revenue king for the month, winning $43.2 million from gamblers, up 8.5 percent despite a fractional decline in slot revenue. "Sister casino Caesars reported the biggest revenue gain, up 14.9 percent to $40.4 million. Its slot revenue increased 20.6 percent for the month. "…Revenue declined at Claridge, Hilton, Sands and Tropicana, with each reporting worse luck or lower volumes, or both, in table games…" |
