Atlantic City Casino Goes Grand7 January 2003ATLANTIC CITY-- Showboat Casino-Hotel will follow the burgeoning trend of turning a bland casino Boardwalk entrance into a lively tourist attraction. "Showboat said Monday that it will spend $33.8 million over the next 10 months on a Mardi Gras- and French Quarter-themed facade, towering signs, an open-air bar and lounge with dance floor, an expanded restaurant, new food court and a 426-slot casino expansion. "…Combined with a 544-room hotel tower scheduled to open in May and other projects over the last two years, parent company Harrah's Entertainment Inc. has approved more than $230 million in capital improvements at Showboat. "…Showboat's latest plan is to change its 300 feet of lifeless Boardwalk frontage into an ornate cityscape with lots of glass, lighting and classic New Orleans decor.
