Army Worried Over New Casino in Laos

18 February 2003

THAILAND -- As reported by the Bangkok Post: `` The Second Army is worried a new border casino in Laos' Tha Khaek town, opposite Nakhon Phanom, may pose a national security threat, a military source said yesterday.

``The source said there had to be measures to prevent Thais going to the Lao casino. ``If we don't do that we may face security problems in the future.''.

``…Thai gamblers who could not visit casinos in Poi Pet, Cambodia, were going somewhere else, he said. Thais are barred from going to Cambodia after the Jan 29 riots in Phnom Penh…"
