Arizona Lottery Reports Record Sales4 July 2003ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizon Republic: “A whopping Powerball jackpot last December and strong player interest in scratch-off tickets helped propel the Arizona Lottery to record sales in the fiscal year that ended June 30, officials said Thursday. “Lottery sales hit $322.3 million, up 9 percent over the prior year. Arizona's Lottery began 22 years ago. An estimated $94.5 million will go into the state's General Fund, contingent on final accounting. The balance goes to prizes, retailer commissions and administration. “…The Lottery is Arizona's second-largest form of gambling in terms of revenue, behind Indian casinos and ahead of horse and dog racing. “`The Arizona Lottery the past few years has done a marvelous job of separating . . . Arizonans from their money,’ said Don Hulen, executive director of the Arizona Council on Compulsive Gambling Inc. `They do a lot of good things with the money, but not everybody's a winner.’…” |
