Aristocrat's Rise Just the Start

20 February 2001

AUSTRALIA – Feb. 20, 2001 – As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald: "Aristocrat has tipped a strong finish to the year ahead, despite a slow start, as its forays into the Japanese and US gaming markets begin to bear fruit.

"Aristocrat yesterday reported a 10 per cent increase in net profit to $64.9 million for the year to December.

"Revenue rose just 2 per cent to a record $533.5 million.

"…Aristocrat shares soared 10 per cent, or 55c, to $5.95 yesterday on the back of the firm outlook.

"Australian revenue fell 9 per cent to $372.4 million, hit by a 16 per cent slump in machine sales to $286.4 million. Domestic revenue was also adversely affected by a delay in approval for the NSW launch of Aristocrat's Mark 6 Platform.

"A 40 per cent surge in international revenue to $161.1 million offset the decline in the domestic market. Aristocrat now expects international sales to account for 60 per cent of its revenue by 2002.

"…Revenue from systems, game conversions and services jumped 34 per cent to $236.4 million last year.

"…Having been granted a Nevada gaming machine licence, Aristocrat is trialling its games there as part of the process for obtaining regulatory approval. Aristocrat will also be up and running in South America within three months.

"Analysts said this year was a critical year for Aristocrat's international strategy.

"….Aristocrat declared a final dividend of 7c per share, payable March 20."
