Aristocrat Counter-Sues IGT

23 January 2002

AUSTRALIA -- Aristocrat Leisure Ltd., the second largest slot machine maker, said it filed a lawsuit against larger rival International Game Technology of Reno for patent infringement.

The Sydney, Australia-based company said it also asked that IGT's recent lawsuit against Aristocrat be denied and that some of IGT's patents be invalidated.

Last month Reno-based IGT alleged the Australian company infringed its patents after Aristocrat acquired Casino Data Systems, which IGT in 1996 provided with confidential technology.

Aristocrat is seeing an injunction against further sales and a recall of a number of IGT games including the Austin Powers, Pick-n-Pop and Puttin' on the Hits games, it said in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange.
