Argosy Gaming Expanding Casino31 May 2002KANSAS CITY, Missouri – As reported by the Associated Press: "Argosy Gaming Co. will go ahead with plans to replace the last navigable riverboat casino in the Kansas City market with a landlocked barge. "The Illinois-based company and the Missouri Gaming Commission had approved the $105 million expansion of the Argosy Riverside Casino earlier this year. "But the expansion plan stalled when Missouri Gov. Bob Holden proposed steep increases in casino taxes to balance the state's budget. "…Casino tax increase measures failed to win Legislative approval. And Argosy president Jim Perry last week quietly gave his nod for construction to begin. "…Under the plan that the Gaming Commission approved in January, Argosy will replace its three-deck riverboat casino with a one-deck floating barge…" |
