Argosy Gaming Company Receives Put Notice from its 13.5% Lawrenceburg Casino- Minority Partner

ALTON, Illinois –(Press Release) -- Sept. 20, 2000 -- Argosy Gaming Company (NYSE: AGY) today announced that on September 18, 2000 it received notification from Centaur, Inc. (``Centaur'') of its intent to sell its 13.5% limited partnership interest in the Lawrenceburg casino.

Centaur's notice to sell is irrevocable, and the determination of the purchase price and other terms are governed by the Lawrenceburg Partnership Agreement. Conseco Entertainment, L.L.C. (``Conseco''), who holds the other 29% minority interest in the Lawrenceburg casino partnership, notified the Company of its intent to sell on April 28, 2000.

The Company will immediately commence negotiations with Centaur pursuant to the terms of the Lawrenceburg Partnership Agreement while also continuing to determine the appropriate value of the Conseco interest.
