Arcade Crackdown in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA – July 26, 2000 – As reported by the New Straits Times: "In the past week, they have seized 245 `fruit machines' from seven outlets.

"The operations were conducted last Wednesday and Monday by the Federal police and General Operations Force.

"…They seized 120 `fruit machines', similar to the `one-arm bandits' in casinos, from the outlets.

"…The four outlets situated in the same row, a stone's throw away from the Damansara Utama police station, were raided about 4pm.

"Police seized 125 `fruit machines' from the premises and detained four caretakers at the outlets. They were questioned before being released on bail.

"Operators of licensed establishments caught operating gambling video machines can be fined up to RM10,000, or jailed up to three years, or both.

"Under the Entertainment Enactment 1995, the owner can be fined up to RM20,000 or jailed a maximum of five years, or both, for operating without a licence... "
