Appeal Delaying MTR Deal in Pennsylvania24 December 2002ERIE, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``Plans for the state's fifth thoroughbred race track are being kept behind the starting gates because of an appeal by a rival horse racing company. ``MEC Pennsylvania Racing Inc. on Thursday filed an appeal in Commonwealth Court, challenging state officials' decision to allow MTR Gaming Group Inc. to build a 1-mile track in Summit Township, near Erie. ``In the appeal, MEC Pennsylvania claims the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission granted a license for the state's fifth thoroughbred track in September without giving other racing companies a chance to challenge MTR Gaming's application. ``...Officials with West Virginia-based MTR Gaming criticized the appeal because it could indefinitely postpone the $56 million track..." |
