Anti Gambling Group Calls for Smoke Ban at Australian Casino

17 July 2001

AUSTRALIA – July 17, 2001 –As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "The Inter Church Gambling Taskforce has called for a total smoking ban at gaming venues including Crown Casino.

"The group wants Crown to extend bans from restaurants and to gaming areas and supports calls from unions and medical lobby groups for workers to be protected from the effects of passive smoking.

"…`I think in a community which has become very sensitive to the impact of smoking later on we will see that individuals who have been subjected to passive smoking will have a right to make claims against poker machine operators', [Spokesman Ray Cleary] said."
