Anchor Gaming's AWI On-Line Lottery Systems Subsidiary Awarded 5 Year Contract Extension for Maryland Lottery

7 August 2000

LAS VEGAS, Nevada –(Press Release)-- Aug. 7, 2000 -- Anchor Gaming (Nasdaq: SLOT) today announced that its Automated Wagering International, Inc. (AWI) on-line lottery systems subsidiary has been granted a five-year contract extension by the Maryland Board of Public Works to provide on-line and instant ticket gaming systems and services to the Maryland Lottery through June 2006.

The five-year extension was the maximum allowed under the original contract that AWI signed with the State of Maryland in 1995. AWI provides the Maryland Lottery its MasterLink(TM) Advanced Gaming System software and 4,100 on-line retail terminals, of which 1,800 are Keno retailers.

Lottery sales in Maryland have increased every year during the AWI contract. In the Lottery's fiscal year 2000, which ended June 30, 2000, AWI's proprietary game Keno Bonus (patent pending) produced $70 million in new sales alone.

The Maryland Lottery produced record sales and profits during its 2000 fiscal year, with sales reaching nearly $1.2 billion, an increase of $93 million from the previous record set in fiscal year 1999.
