Ameristar Launches Foundation to Help Minorities and Women

KANSAS CITY -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: `` Ameristar Casino has pledged $1 million over five years to finance a private, nonprofit foundation that will make grants and loans to benefit minority- and women-owned businesses in Kansas City.

``The foundation was formally launched this week with Ameristar's $400,000 donation covering pledges for 2001 and 2002.

```We are very pleased to present this first contribution,' said Ameristar President and Chief Executive Craig H. Neilsen. 'We are excited these funds are now going to be available for the start-up and growth of minority- and women-owned businesses in Kansas City.'

``…The foundation replaces Station's original equal-opportunity commitment to the Kansas City Port Authority to set aside 10 percent of the preferred stock in the casino company's Missouri subsidiary for minority and women investors…"
