Ameristar Casino Kansas City Opens Consolidated Casino

28 August 2001

LAS VEGAS, Nevada –(Press Release) -- August 28, 2001 -- Ameristar Casinos, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASCA) today announced that Ameristar Kansas City has completed the consolidation of its two casinos and has opened the single casino facility. As a result of the consolidation, Ameristar Kansas City now features a single 115,000 square foot casino with over 3,000 slot and video poker machines and 106 table games. An additional 25,000 square feet of space on the second level of the Queen (formerly utilized for gaming) becomes available for meetings and special events.

``We are excited to be opening the single casino configuration,'' said Ameristar's President of Missouri Operations John V. Finamore. ``We hope the single casino will provide more excitement and convenience for our guests. We also expect to benefit from operational efficiencies resulting from the consolidation.''

The consolidation of the casinos was completed according to schedule with no material business interruption. Additional modifications to the casino floor are expected to be completed in November 2001, including: the replacement of 350 slot machines; redesigning the floor layout to take advantage of the single casino configuration and enhance customer satisfaction; relocating and expanding the high-limit area, including the addition of six high-limit table games; moving the poker room from the second level of the casino to the first; and combining the two casino delicatessens into a single, expanded delicatessen.
