Amaya to operate PokerStars under full Romanian license

26 August 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- PokerStars.com and BetStars, the leading poker and sports betting brands of Amaya Inc., are launching new software in Romania to comply with requirements of a new, full license that comes into effect from Sept. 1. Over the past year, PokerStars.ro, BetStars.ro and Full Tilt have operated under an interim Romanian license.

"We are very happy to offer the world's leading poker and sports betting brands to Romanians under a local regulatory framework," said Eric Hollreiser, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Amaya. "This demonstrates Amaya's commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that is good for players, good for operators, and provides revenue for regulators."

To comply with local regulatory requirements, PokerStars and BetStars will implement the following changes:
-Responsible Gaming controls will be expanded with new limits
-Amaya will work only with partners and suppliers who are licensed in Romania and hold a Class 2 license
-Full Tilt will no longer be able available in Romania, with players migrating to the PokerStars.ro brand.

Romanian poker players will continue to be able to participate in PokerStars' global shared liquidity player pool. The offering on BetStars will continue unchanged.

Ahead of the implementation of the new Romanian license, PokerStars is going to proactively contact players to help authenticate their account in compliance with Romanian rules.

Visitors to Romania who are not resident in Romania will continue to be able to play on PokerStars and BetStars using their 'home' software and regulatory jurisdiction while they are temporarily visiting Romania. Romanian residents with PokerStars.ro and BetStars.ro accounts who are temporarily travelling outside Romania will continue to be able to use their accounts from abroad, subject to any applicable local regulations.
