Alternate Site Sought for Casino Related Lagoon

NEGAUNEE, Michigan -- As reported by the Mining Journal: "After listening to residents Tuesday, the Negaunee Township Board has come up with an alternate site for the 40-acre open sewage lagoon it tentatively planned to construct near Morgan Meadows.

"Instead of constructing the lagoon on industrial-zoned property behind Marquette Township's Morgan Meadows subdivision off of Marquette County Road 492, the board is considering an industrial-zoned location about one mile northwest of Morgan Pond, Supervisor Wayne Johnson said this morning.

''We think everyone involved will be happier with this new location,' Johnson said.

"...The lagoon, comprised of four large ponds surrounded by chain-link fence, would initially provide sewer needs for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community's Ojibwa II casino, which the tribe is planning to relocate from Chocolay Township to the former Marquette County Airport grounds, said Clerk Rachel Sertich..."
