Alleged Slot Machine Scam Uncovered in Missouri

ST. CHARLES, Missouri – As reported by KSDK-TV (St. Louis): "St. Charles County authorities are dealing with a case they call a first of its kind for them -- a gambler who has found a unique way to maximize his odds against a casino's number one money-maker: the slot machine.

"Sunday night, a 40-year-old New York resident named Wei Jian Xie was arrested on board the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles (a suburb of St. Louis). He was allegedly observed using an altered token to play the dollar slot machines.

"Xie had reportedly shaved the token in such a way as to cause the slot machine to reject it, but not before allowing a credit. Normally, an altered token or coin would simply pass through the machine. Investigators say with this sophisticated slug, he could play a slot machine repeatedly without a loss.

"…Xie was booked on one felony count of cheating on gambling. But prosecutors say they may have a tough time making a case. Xie, who doesn't speak any English, posted bond and was released…"
