Alberta Casino Hits Bump in Road

CALGARY, Alberta – As reported by the Calgary Herald: "The city's response to the Tsuu T'ina Nation's casino application will hinge on how the band addresses transportation issues and a desperately needed road across the reserve to the deep south, says Mayor Dave Bronconnier.

" …`(Chief Sandford Big Plume) advised me they have a report and will be bringing it forward in the next couple of weeks with a comprehensive master plan and a view of some sort of communications strategy to get the involvement of the Calgary community,' said Bronconnier.

"…`But we also need to respond on a basis that deals with the transportation issues as well as the development issues.'

"…[The] band has passed the first hurdle toward building a casino on the southwestern outskirts of Calgary.

"The proposed site is near the corner of 37th Street and Glenmore Trail S.W., on 376 hectares that used to be home to the officer's mess when the land was leased for a Canadian Armed Forces base…"
