Aircrash Inflight Gaming Link?3 November 1998There's speculation that the sad crash of the Swiss Air flight off Canada may have a link to inflight gambling. Regulators have instructed airlines to shut down inflight entertainment systems similar to that installed in the crashed Swiss Air jet. Crash investigators have found that the wiring for the system showed signs of heat stress and as a precaution have ordered the shut down. Swiss Air were one of the first to include the new interactive entertainment systems which included some interactive gambling as part of their inflight entertaiment. There is no confirmed direct link at this stage and the heat damage to the inflight entertainment system may prove to be secondary damage resulting from the real cause of the crash, at this stage of the investigation cockpit wiring is a prime suspect. (Editor's Note: We're waiting for the anti-gambling Rev. Tom Gray to turn the inflight gambling into a providential event. The last time we saw that thinking was the Flood of '93 here in the Midwest which was inextricably tied to the advent of riverboat gambling.) |
