Aintree Delays Grand National for Royal Wedding5 April 2005UK -- As reported by the Guardian: "The organisers of the Grand National have delayed the horse race by 25 minutes to avoid a clash with the royal wedding and allow the BBC to cover both events in full. "The corporation is to offer live coverage of both events on BBC1 as part of a compromise schedule hastily drawn up to make room for the marriage blessing in Windsor which was postponed from Friday to Saturday because of the Pope's funeral. "...this afternoon the racecourse bosses announced they would put back the race - to 4.10pm - to allow the BBC cover Prince Charles's marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles at 2.30pm. "...Sporting Index has wasted no time opening a book on whether the royal wedding or the Grand National will get the best ratings..."
