Agua Caliente Casino Hits Milestone

RANCHO MIRAGE, California – As reported by the Palm Springs Desert Sun: "Tossed coins in the rebar.

"It's a ritual that casino contractors rarely forget - one played out Monday at the construction site of the $210 million Agua Caliente Casino resort hotel along Interstate-10 and Ramon Road.

"Just as fresh cement was poured over the steel reinforced bars that will form the foundation of the high-rise hotel, coins and shredded currency were scooped out of a 50-gallon drum and scattered across the base.

"'It's a good luck omen,'said Maynard Zillmer, superintendent with Roel Construction Co., the general contractor for the project.

"…For Zillmer, Monday's event was a milestone, as more than half the foundation that's been designed to withstand an earthquake will have been poured by Friday…"
