AFL Educates Young Players21 March 2003AUSTRALIA – As reported by the (Australian) Mercury: "The AFl wants to educate its young high-paid players about the perils of gambling. "This will be one of the major initiatives to be announced next week in the league's new gambling code. "With young players having high disposable incomes, the AFL wants to be seen to be proactive rather than reactive in its stance on gambling, in much the same way as it was with its racial vilification policy. "Players can be fined or suspended if found guilty of passing on sensitive information for their own gain. "…The AFL's new code will be based on recommendations from the NSW Institute of Gambling Research, which was commissioned to produce a similar report for the Australian Cricket Board…" |
