Addicts Join Tabcorp's Self-Exclusion Program15 April 2003AUSTRALIA – As reported by the (Australia) Herald Sun: "Desperate horse racing punters are banning themselves from TABs. "Tabcorp bosses yesterday revealed a dozen Victorian gambling addicts had joined a TAB self-exclusion program since September last year. "…It is the first program designed to protect turf punters in the history of Victorian horse racing. "The confessed problem gamblers are prohibited from placing bets at racetracks, including Flemington and Caulfield, and 110 TAB outlets across the state. "Telephone and Internet wagering services can also be frozen under the scheme. "But hundreds of PubTABs across the state are refusing to adopt the program, claiming it is too difficult to police. "…Despite being rolled out in less than a third of TAB betting outlets, the program has won the support of community welfare groups…" |
