Addicted Lawyer Loses Appeal

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand Herald: "A gambling-addicted lawyer who lost more than $1 million at the Christchurch Casino has had another loss - in the Court of Appeal.

"The court at Wellington dismissed Philip Gerald Coburn's appeal against a 5 1/2-year jail term. Coburn, 45, pleaded guilty to charges of forgery, dishonest use of documents and dishonestly altering documents.

"…The Court of Appeal said Coburn had illegally taken, in one way or another, $1.78 million of clients' money over about four years while practising on his own…"
