Activities Highlight Grand Opening of Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort

MT. PLEASANT, Mich - The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is celebrating the opening of its hotel with three days of events emphasizing fun and Indian culture. The grand opening is scheduled for August 27 through 29.

Funnyman Don Rickles will emcee the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:15 a.m. on August 27. Grammy award winning country artist, Travis Tritt will be featured together with Williams & Ree's "The Indian and the White Guy," a variety act mixing humor with music. Scheduled for 7 p.m., there will be three levels of seating starting with platinum seating at $49, gold seating at $41 and silver seating at $35. All tickets will be on sale starting Aug. 10 through Tickets Plus by calling 800-585-3737, or by visiting various Ticket Plus Inc. outlets within Meijer stores. Tickets for the show will also be available at the casino box office.

On August 28, "The Largest Touring Illusion Show in the World" brings Sweden's premier illusionist Franz Harary to the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort at 7 p.m. The show combines magic, illusion and dancing to a high-tech, elaborate "Blade Runner" stage. Tickets are $25 for platinum seats, $20 for gold and $15 for silver.

The grand opening events will be capped off August 29 with a free Aztec and pow wow dancer demonstration at 7 p.m.

Along with nightly events, there will be several daytime cultural events including Aztec dancers, Indian dance demonstrations, pow wow dancers, artist demonstrations and authentic Native American arts and crafts. These activities will take place daily from 1 to 5 p.m. on the resort grounds.

August 30 will mark the final giveaway in the Soaring Eagle Summer Sweepstakes. The final drawings will be held in the casino from 1 to 7 p.m. This event will feature the Dixieland Express.

The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is the largest casino in the Midwest and among the largest in the world. Its hotel has 512 rooms and is the largest in mid-Michigan. The resort is owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
