A Taste of Las Vegas in Uruguay

PUNTA DEL ESTE, URUGUAY -- Conrad International Hotels has opened its casino located in the luxury Conrad International Punta del Este Resort and Casino.

The first customers were welcomed into the 38,500-square-foot casino at 1:30 p.m. on New Year's Day. The facility, which is the first true Las Vegas-style casino in South America, offers 63 table games and 450 slots. A separate premium play area is available adjacent to the main casino floor. A buffet restaurant and entertainment lounge have also opened.

Conrad International officials said some 9,000 guests visited the casino during its first day of operation.

Construction continues on the resort's 302 luxury rooms and suites, convention facility and 33,000-square-foot exhibition area. The over $150 million project is scheduled for completion later this summer.

Punta del Este is South America's premier beach resort community. It welcomes over 750,000 visitors each year from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and other parts of the world and is located just a short 20-minute flight from Buenos Aires.
