A Royal Deal

4 October 2001

Aristocrat Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Sydney-based Aristocrat Leisure Ltd., recently announced that it has signed a deal to supply a new progressive slot jackpot system to Harrah''s Entertainment Inc. This is a major breakthrough for the Australian company, marking its first sale to a large American casino operator. Aristocrat''s “Cash Express” system allows casinos to offer players multiple progressive jackpots on linked slot machines. When a game on the system enters a bonus round, the player is guaranteed to win one of four progressive jackpots, with a jackpot of up to $40,000. Although Harrah’s was unwilling to reveal the value of the contract, it did say that it planned, based on performance, to install up to 25 of the systems at its US casinos. Said Bruce Rowe, Harrah''s vice president of slot operations, “We are sure this is just the beginning of many projects we will do with Aristocrat as they bring to the U.S. some of their products proven to be so successful in Australia." Aristocrat Leisure Ltd. slot machines are sold globally but the company did not break into the US market until last year. This year, the company bought Las Vegas-based Casino Data Systems, a supplier of casino management systems and game software, for $181 million.
