A Lucky Stop for a Retired Trucker... $829,663.13 Richer

10 June 1997

BOSSIER CITY, La. -- Ray Corbin was on his way home to Jackson, Miss. from a casino in Nevada when he decided to stop in for a few minutes at Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City. That stop proved to be a profitable decision for the retired trucker who won $829,663.13 on LA Fabulous 50's, a progressive $.50 slot machine.

Corbin says he invested five dollars in the machine and had been playing for a couple of minutes when he hit the jackpot. He was happy to know he had won something, not realizing he had won the top prize. Corbin's first call was to his wife, Mildred, who had a hard time accepting her husband's word about his good fortune.

The Corbin's are retired and use their free time traveling. They plan to use their windfall to pay bills and invest in a motor home to continue their travels.

Ray Corbin is the second trucker to hit it big at Horseshoe, and is the winner of the fourth largest jackpot to be awarded in Bossier City. He joins fellow trucker Timothy Beebe, of Tyler, Texas, who, in September, won over $420,000 on a nickel progressive slot machine. Prior to that there were two million-dollar winners!
