A Family's Fortune24 September 2002OHIO – As reported by the (Ohio) Plains Dealer: "Forty-seven-year-old Tom Roberts switched the channel on the television to the lottery show and stretched across his bed. He kicked off his shoes and propped his head up with his right arm. His 2-year-old foster daughter, Lindsey, sat next to him. It was 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and the winning numbers for the $75 million Ohio Super Lotto Plus jackpot would be drawn in about 25 minutes. Photocopies of the 220 six-number lottery combinations that Tom and 49 other employees at the Hoover Co. had purchased on Thursday sat in a pile near his chest, along with a pen. Worn out from an eight-hour overtime shift, Tom closed his eyes. A few minutes later, he awoke with a start, sat up and peered at the television perched on the armoire across the room. Did he miss the drawing? To read the rest of the story, please click here. |
