A Derby Lottery in Kentucky

7 February 1999

A scratchoff game tied to the Kentucky Derby has been announced by the state's lottery corporation. The tickets, which carry six different scenes from the Derby and Churchill Downs, will go on sale March 3, will sell for $5, and carry a top prize of $125,000.

Cash prizes will be awarded by scratchoff, and losing tickets that do not win a cash prize can be sent to the lottery corporation, which will draw 20 names that will be awarded tickets for two to the Kentucky Oaks and Derby April 30 and May 1. Those 20 will be eligible for a draw on Derby day, with the person holding the winning post position receiving $125,000, second place post $50,000, and third place post $25,000.
