A Casino Boss Who Started With a Bucket of Coins

ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the New York Times: ``Robert L. Boughner knew from the start how to look like a high roller, even if he was only a college kid heading off for a drunken weekend in Las Vegas with other fraternity brothers.

``…`I loved the excitement and the action and all the people looking for a great time,' he said, his voice raised to be heard above the clang and jingle of the thousands of slot machines that spread out over the floor of the newly opened Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa here like metal locusts.

``…Mr. Boughner (pronounced BOHG-ner), 50, is now the chief executive of the Borgata, the first new casino to open in Atlantic City in 13 years. The Borgata reported $46.9 million in revenues in July, which officials said helped increase the city's gambling revenues by 4.4 percent over the same month a year ago.

```We sell positive, memorable experiences at a profit,' he said. "People can escape from their routines or their roles, even for a day."

``…The whirling earth he inhabits makes stable ground hard to tolerate. He thrives on motion and sound and adrenaline. When he leaves his gold-tinted palace, 480 feet high, he struggles.

```I am dependent on this energy,' he said. `When I am home the TV is always going. I sleep with it on. I do not deal well with quiet.'…"
