82 Million SuperLotto Plus Jackpot Up for Grabs7 October 2002SACRAMENTO, California --(Press Release)-- Lottery officials announced the SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at $82 million. "Somewhere in California is the next SuperLotto Plus winner," said Lottery Director Joan Wilson. "The jackpot is quickly reaching historical levels close to the top ten jackpots ever and that gets Californians dreamin' about winning. California is the state with the highest lottery in the nation, including Power Ball and 'The Big Game'. In addition, California's public schools will receive an additional $52.5 million from this jackpot." A single jackpot winner of $82 million would receive 26 annual payments with the first payment equaling $2 million and the 26th payment being more than $4 million (before federal withholding). The estimated cash value would equal roughly half of the jackpot, $41 million or the amount the lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. In the event of the death of a winner, the full prize is paid to the estate of the winner. A retailer who sells the winning ticket would receive 1/2 of 1% of the jackpot as a bonus for selling the winning ticket. A single winning ticket would yield $410,000 for the retailer. In 2002 more than 46 Californians have won a jackpot prize of more than $1 million, playing SuperLotto Plus. On February 16, 2002 the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $193 million and was won by 3 winning tickets from the Orange, Half Moon Bay and Montebello.
