5p Punter Urged to Collect his £130,000 Winnings

17 April 2001

UNITED KINGDOM – April 17, 2001 –As reported by the Guardian: "A pensioner in south Wales who put a series of 5p bets on six horse races has won more than £130,000 - if he comes forward to collect his winnings.

"Before the final race on Saturday afternoon, the unnamed man phoned his bookmaker to ask how much he would get if his horse won. Told it would be in excess of £100,000, he put the phone down to watch the race on the television - and has not been heard of since.

"Bookmakers Jack Brown last night appealed for the man, who is from a small village near Bridgend, to come forward. The pensioner placed 5p bets totalling £6.30 on six races at Kempton Park and Haydock.

"…A spokesman for Jack Brown said, `It is a phenomenal return. Somebody out there is walking around with a betting slip in their pocket worth £130,000. We're hoping he will get in touch with us soon.'
