21 Arrested on Charges of Gambling11 February 2001TRENTON, New Jersey – Feb. 11, 2001 – As reported by the New Jersey Record: " Two reputed mob figures, including an associate of jailed mob leader Joseph `Skinny Joey' Merlino's, were indicted yesterday on gambling and loan-sharking charges. "…In all, 21 people were indicted on gambling and related charges stemming from a joint investigation by the Organized Crime Bureaus of the New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice. "Joseph `Mousie' Massimino, 50, of South Philadelphia, described by authorities as a soldier in the Merlino crime family, and Edward `Pop' Parisi, 59, of Mount Laurel, a reputed mob associate, were charged with heading a mob-controlled gambling operation that generated millions of dollars in bets in South Jersey and Philadelphia, according to investigators. Six of their alleged associates also were charged in the indictment. "In a separate gambling case, 13 individuals, including Councilman William Sampolski, 51, were indicted on charges of conspiracy and promoting gambling. .." |
