17 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Raid at Saratoga Race Course

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York – As reported by the Associated Press: ``Immigration officials and police arrested 17 illegal immigrants working at the Saratoga Race Course in an early morning raid Tuesday, authorities said.

``Eleven of the immigrants were from Mexico, four were from Chile and two were from Guatemala, Saratoga Springs police Sgt. Gary Forward said.

``The 17 were arrested without incident in two bunkhouses on the race course's backstretch, he said.

``Two of them had outstanding orders for deportation and will be sent out of the country, said Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Amy Otten.

``…The New York Racing Association, which runs the race track, said in a statement that none of those apprehended were NYRA employees. All of those arrested had been licensed by the State Racing and Wagering Board to work at racetracks, NYRA said…”
