$83.5 Million Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Indiana28 October 2002INDIANA –(Press Release) -- America's Game paid off big Saturday night for one winning ticket sold in Indiana. The winner of the $83.5 million jackpot now has to decide if they want the 29-year annuity or the cash option worth $44,026,380.26. The ticket holder will have 60 days after the ticket is validated to make that decision. In addition to the jackpot winner, 502,488 other players across the nation won a total of more than $3.7 million in prizes in America's Game. The numbers drawn were: 12, 14, 27, 33, 39, and the Powerball was 41. The Power Play multiplier was 3. Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Kansas, South Carolina, and West Virginia (2). The South Carolina winner purchased the Power Play option. By spending the extra dollar they multiplied their prize by 3 for a total win of $300,000. Thirty-four players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. One of those players purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $15,000. More than 55,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 3 Saturday. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. This jackpot run started with the September 18 drawing. Almost 4 million Powerball players across the nation have won more than $36.4 million in prizes since this jackpot run started in mid-September. The $103.5 million jackpot from September 14 has still not been claimed. Two tickets, one purchased in Indiana, the other in Pennsylvania, won that jackpot. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased more than 20.8 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. The jackpot for the Wednesday, October 30 drawing will be $10 million with a $5.3 million cash option. The lotteries sold $1.3 billion in Powerball tickets in 2001. That translates into more than $400 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is now played in 23 states and the District of Columbia. |
